What We Do & Who We Help

Let There Be Mom works to preserve the legacies of moms and dads with life-threatening illnesses.  Once a family submits an Application for Services, and it is determined that they meet our criteria (they have children 18 years old or younger, their doctor must sign the “Physician’s Statement”, and they must be able  to communicate with us), we will contact the family to set up out initial meeting.  During this meeting, we conduct an interview with the parent who has applied for services.  This is their time to tell us about themselves and let us know what they would like for their children to know about them.  From there, we brainstorm on ways to put their talents, hobbies, hopes and dreams into tangible forms for their children.

Once their projects have been decided on, their team leaders go “make it happen”.  Our goal is to work quickly, yet at a pace that is comfortable for the family.  Many projects require that the family provide us with the items we need to complete them (for example photographs for scrapbooks, clothing for quilts, items for shadow boxes, etc.) and sometimes the families need to participate in the project so we need to work around their schedules (for example family photo sessions, pottery projects, etc).

There are many popular projects that we see LTBM Families select repeatedly (scrapbooks, quilts, gifts for the future, books of letters, photography, thumbprint charms), but we also work hard to discover the uniqueness of each mom or dad and try to create something specific to them.

Who is Eligible For Our Services

Let There Be Mom provides assistance to moms and dads who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. The families we serve must have at least one dependent child, 18 years old or younger, their physician  must agree that their illness is life threatening and attest to the fact that should the mother or father refuse medical treatment their life expectancy would be 2 years or less, and the ailing parent must be able to communicate with us. We do not discriminate based on age, race, religion or financial status.

At this time, we are able to serve families that live in or around the Greenville, SC area. Our vision is to expand nationwide.

Who Can Submit an Application for a Family

Due to the sensitive nature of our cause, we require that the family who is seeking services complete the application for services.

If you know of a mom or dad who you believe would qualify for our services, please provide us with their mailing address and we will send them a brochure with a note stating that “someone who loves and cares about them thought that they might be able to benefit from our services”.
